About Cerese Troskie
Property Law & Commercial Mediator | Attorney (Practicing)
I am a seasoned admitted attorney and have been in good standing with the Legal Practice Council for the past 31 years. I am an experienced litigator with extensive involvement and experience in local government law, property law, family law, damages claims in both the High and Magistrate’s Courts and administration of deceased estates.
I recently completed the 40-hour Civil Mediation Training course through Legal Education and Development (LEAD) which provided comprehensive training in negotiation techniques, conflict resolution, communication strategies, ethical mediation practices, and the structured facilitation of dispute resolution processes.
Over the past 31 years in legal practice, however, I have regularly facilitated the informal mediation and settlement of litigation matters of a diverse nature - commercial, property law, local government law, family law and deceased estates. In addition, I have served as an Acting Commissioner in the Small Claims Court since my appointment in 2009.
Through this extensive practical experience, I have developed strong skills in conflict management, negotiation, problem-solving, active listening, impartial facilitation, and the management of emotionally charged disputes. My experience includes engaging with opposing parties and legal representatives, identifying common ground between disputants, facilitating constructive dialogue, and assisting parties in reaching mutually acceptable resolutions in a cost-effective and pragmatic manner.
In addition, I have served as an Acting Commissioner in the Small Claims Court since 2009. This role has further enhanced my adjudicative, interpersonal, and dispute-resolution abilities, including the fair and impartial management of hearings, evaluating evidence, applying legal principles, dealing with self-represented litigants, and promoting equitable outcomes within a judicial environment. My combined litigation, judicial, and informal mediation-related experience has equipped me with a balanced and practical approach to dispute resolution.
