Advocate Xolani Khaya Koza 

Advocate Xolani Khaya Koza is an admitted Advocate of the High Court of South Africa (2018), an academic, and an accredited mediator, with expertise spanning
communications law, cyber law, evidence, and dispute resolution.

He currently serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Criminal and Procedural Law at the University of South Africa (UNISA), where he teaches Law of Evidence and Communications Law.

Advocate Koza holds an LLB degree and a Master of Laws (LLM) from UNISA, with his postgraduate research focusing on the defamatory nature of social media content, including internet memes. He is presently pursuing a PhD, with a research focus on the evolution and legal implications of artificial intelligence. Following completion of his LLB, he attended Law School at the University of Pretoria.

He was admitted as an advocate in 2018 and completed his pupillage with the Gauteng Society of Advocates (GSA) in 2021. The GSA is an independent professional body of practising advocates that promotes excellence, ethical conduct, and professional development within the legal profession.

Advocate Koza’s professional practice includes a dedicated focus on cyber law, encompassing matters relating to data protection, cybercrime, online defamation, electronic communications, and general litigation. He also holds a certificate in Advanced Corporate Law and Securities Law, covering corporate governance, compliance with the King Reports, corporate finance, business rescue proceedings, insider trading, market abuse, and company secretarial practice. These qualifications have enabled him to advise management and support complex corporate and regulatory compliance functions.

His professional experience includes service as a Legal Consultant at Finance Hunt (Pty) Ltd, a boutique consulting firm with cross-border operations in the financial services, mining, technology, and sports sectors. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing staff, ensuring compliance with service-level agreements, managing stakeholder and client relations, engaging with regulatory and governmental bodies, and facilitating dispute resolution. He also served as In-House Counsel at Tokyo Ndlela Attorneys Inc., where he handled general litigation across civil, labour, company, environmental, petroleum, and mining law, drafted contracts and legal
memoranda for complex cross-border transactions, and participated in alternative dispute resolution processes.

Advocate Koza is an accredited mediator, including within the court-annexed mediation framework. His mediation practice is characterised by legal rigour, procedural fairness, and emotional intelligence, enabling him to manage disputes with sensitivity, structure, and efficiency. His background in legal education enhances his mediation approach, which emphasises clear communication, informed participation, and party self-determination, in alignment with the objectives of court-annexed mediation.

He is a member of the South African Association of Mediators, the Gauteng Family Law Forum,  and is also an accredited Family Law Mediator. His early professional development includes court observation and litigation support at Jaap Venter Attorneys, as well as participation in a judicial mentorship programme under Madam Justice Victor.
