Adv Johan Jurie Venter

Johan is an experienced advocate, mediator, trainer, and parenting coordinator with a strong background in family law, commercial mediation, and dispute resolution.

His career spans decades in the South African justice system, private practice, mediation, training, and legal compliance. He is known for combining practical courtroom experience with specialist mediation expertise, particularly in family law matters.

 

Professional Experience

Johan began his career in the Department of Justice in 1988, where he progressed through various roles as a prosecutor and a magistrate. He served as Senior Public Prosecutor from 2000 to 2002, and Chief Prosecutor from 2002 to 2017.

Since 2017, he has practised as a Mediator Parenting Coordinator with a particular interest in family law 2017.

Johan contributed to the mediation industry, serving on the SAAM EXCO for five years, and authored and presented various training-accredited sessions to the industry. He also assed more that 100 mediators to certify their readiness to practise as mediator.

He also trained as a mediator in medico-legal and commercial disputes in 2022, completing around 200 mediations to date across these practice areas.

He has also contributed to legal training through the Gauteng Society of Advocates, including the Pupils Program in mediation in Family Law and Advanced Trial Advocacy.
